Weddings

I don’t advertise that I do weddings and have actually referred some weddings to other wedding photographers in my area before. But when Cathy asked me to be there for her wedding day, I couldn’t turn her down. She’s the sweetest lady.

The reason I usually don’t do weddings is, not because I can’t shoot them but because of fear. Here’s the story…

Let’s throw it back to August 20, 1999. It’s my wedding day. The photographer shot my whole wonderful day with a broken camera. This left me angry and sad for years. All I have now are some snapshots from relatives. Including this one. I think it’s my favorite.

It would have been nice to get those professional looking images but it just didn’t happen for me and I’m afraid that one day, I might be that photographer with the broken camera (or SD card or whatever) and all they get are snapshots from relatives. But when I’m asked to do a wedding, I know I can deliver the shots so that the couple can remember the details and, more importantly, the emotions from the day. It takes all that’s in me to just do it. When I’m there though, I love it!

Little Helpers and Obsessions Boutique

I love getting behind the scenes photos of myself.

I was taking photos of these shoes for Obsessions Boutique and this little cutie was in the shot. So, I asked her to come help me hold the reflector. The reflector was acting as a source of shade this time. She was so excited to be my helper. Sometimes the little ones just want to help. Holding the reflector is a good way to do that.

Westlake Prom 2018

Worried much?  Yes, I was. The sun had gone behind the mountain and the light was fading fast. BUT! The beauty of that was I was able to see the gorgeous mountains behind them. If the sun had been shining brightly, the mountains most certainly wouldn’t have been seen. I could go into why that happens in camera but I’ll save that for another blog post someday.  In the meantime, check out their pictures! I got a group picture but am not allowed to show it due to some legal stuff, but here are a few of the individual shots.

Two Years

I was looking at my blog posts and realized I took two years off of blogging. I kept shooting and making smiles happen but didn’t blog about it. So, in between the content that I have planned, I’ll be posting some of my highlights about what I was doing during those years. I learned A LOT about myself and had opportunities come my way that taught me more about what I like and don’t like.

When I was younger my Dad would ask me something like, what do you want to eat?  I would tell him all the things I didn’t want but had a hard time coming up with things I did want. I never knew what I wanted. I just knew what I didn’t want.

I feel like I still struggle with that a bit, but taking pictures for others and businesses for the past couple of years I’ve had opportunities come my way and I’ve learned just a little bit more about what I want. I still don’t know, but I’m getting closer.

Some of those opportunities included shooting for the FAA!  Yeah, that FAA.  Did you know there is an FAA approved Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF) Training Center in Salt Lake City? The ARFF Training Center provides safe and realistic fire training for airport based firefighters and they asked me to take photos of their equipment and GIANT firetrucks. This is one of those jobs that you get because of who you know but I thought it was fun!  It was challenging and very intimidating being the photographer for the day but also very awesome.

I took photos of equipment like, the jaws of life

and GIANT fire trucks that can hold 3,000 gallons of water!

Another opportunity I had was another year of dance photos for Legacy Dance in Orem. The jumping shots were always my favorite.

I started shooting for Redpoint Woodworks. Their furniture and other custom pieces are amazing!  I’m sure I’ll post about them again. They are always making custom new pieces and needing photos for their website. I love it! They are talented carpenters making beautiful furniture and art for homes and businesses.

My city has hired me to take photos of the city workers, the interim mayor, city councilmen and council women. Even Miss Eagle Mountain.

Gee, how do you even pronounce Gee?

I’ve realized since I’ve been married and changed my last name to Gee that if you’ve never met me, you don’t know how to pronounce Gee.  Is it with a “J” sound, or with a throaty “Guh” sound?

It’s pronounced Gee with a “guh” sound. Like Geese. If it’s plural it’s Geeze. “There are the Gee’s (Geeze)!”

And here’s my flock of Gee’s.
